Pine Level – Hillard Keith Phillips, age 79, died Thursday, March 5, 2020 in SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born August 27, 1940 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Hillard Washington and Margaret Estelle “Stella” Garner Phillips. He was preceded in death by all seven of his siblings, Thelbert Phillips, Ruth Phillips Pittman, C.B. Phillips, Bobby Phillips, Ethel Phillips Cowan, Estelle Phillips Mitchell, and Kenneth Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a lineman with CP&L for 33 ½ years prior to his retirement after the birth of his first grandchild. Keith was a member of Parrish Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also coached with Pine Level Recreational League when his kids where young. Keith’s greatest joy in life was helping raise his 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2020 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Walker and Rev. Tony Medlin officiating. Burial will follow in Micro Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday just prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Pittman Phillips; son, Brian Keith Phillips and wife Wendy of Pine Level; daughter, Lisa Phillips Persson and husband Kenneth of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Daniel Terry Phillips of Pine Level, Justin Keith Phillips of Pine Level, Annika Elisabeth Persson of Raleigh, Nicklas Wade Persson of Raleigh, and Alayna Faith Phillips of Pine Level.
