Smithfield – James William “Jimmy” Hughes, Jr. age 61 died Monday morning at his home. Born November 21, 1958 in Johnston County to the late James William and Lennie Laverne Barbour Hughes, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Laverne Hughes. Jimmy was on the track team at SSS High School and enjoyed all types of sports. He loved animals of all types and enjoyed music, spending time with family and friends and especially loved watching the UNC Tarheels.
Friends and family may come by Parrish Funeral Home, in Selma, Thursday April 16, 2020 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM or Friday, April 17, 2020 from 9:00 AM – 12 Noon, to pay their respects. Due to current circumstances with COVID-19, the family may not be present. A private graveside service will be held in the Yelverton Grove Church Cemetery.
Surviving are his son, James William “Trey” Hughes, III of Selma; brother, John Timothy Hughes of Smithfield and sisters, Jamie Sue Strickland of Smithfield and Ginger Joy Rohrbaugh of Atlantic Beach, FL.
