John Durwood “JD” Pipkin, 67, passed away peacefully in the care of his family at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC on July 28, 2017.
JD was born December 16, 1949 in Wayne County to the late Edgar Allen and Vera Estelle Beasley “Bay” Pipkin. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Earl Pipkin, Edgar Allen Pipkin, Jr. “June Bug”, Jerry Dan Pipkin “Red”, and Eugene Douglas Pipkin “Droopy”. JD enjoyed fishing, singing along with Hank Williams and loving his two K9 companions. He also loved picking vegetables out of the garden and working in the yard.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service.
JD is survived by his son, Durwood Ray Pipkin and wife Bobbie Steelman Pipkin of Liberty, NC; daughter Sandra Pipkin Bartlett and husband Allen of Goldsboro; sisters, Cora Ann Pipkin of Kenly, and Mary Alice Freeman of Pine Level; brothers, Chester Pipkin and wife Meg of Willow Springs and Tommy Pipkin and wife Kathy of Micro; grandchildren, Ethan Ray Pipkin, Shelby Lynn Pipkin, Lauren Rae Bartlett, and Joshua Allen Bartlett.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield for the love and care shown to JD and his family during his final days.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield in memory of JD, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
