Smithfield – John Louis Pope, age 83, died Monday, June 18, 2018 in SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born September 4, 1934 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Dallas and Bertie Brummitt Pope. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ruben Pope, Verlon Pope, David Pope, and Billy Pope; and sisters, Carness Underwood and Lorene Baker.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Joann Godwin Pope of Smithfield; daughters, Lisa Lee Allison and husband Paul, and Teresa Pope, all of Garner; brother, George Pope and wife Gail of Smithfield; sisters, Virginia Benson of Smithfield, Louise Vanhoy and husband Harding of Clayton, and Elsie Smith of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Hannah Lee, Austin Lee, Grayson Allison, Tristen Allison, Kylie Elixson, and Payton Elixson; and special family friend, Christy Twigg Kennon of Clayton.
