Joseph Vernon Walters, Jr., 82, passed away on September 30, 2019 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born July 26, 1937 in Franklin County to the late Joseph Vernon Walters and Aileen Williams Walters.
A private burial service will be held at a later date at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with the Reverend David Hyman officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Loree Hyman Walters; sons, Christopher Dean Walters of Pine Level and Isaac David Hyman and wife, Martha Anne of Chapel Hill; sister, Patricia Walters White of Wilson and husband, Warren; grandsons, Joseph K. Walters, Isaiah C. Walters, Caleb M. Hyman and Noah D. Hyman.
Mr. Walters served his country in the Army Airborne. He loved car racing and owned his own race car and also built race cars. In later life, he owned Phase II Motor Sports, Inc. where he specialized in race car graphics and signs.
