Dunn: Mrs. Katherine Walton Pope, age 74, went to her heavenly home with her family by her side, on Monday, June 17, 2019. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 205 East Hill St. in Benson, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow in the Pope Family Cemetery outside Dunn.
Mrs. Pope was born on October 7, 1944 in Johnston County to the late Amos A. and Mary Alice Stephenson Walton. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wade C. Roberts and Charles A. Pope; brothers, Maylon Walton and Lavern Walton; and a sister, Omalene Barefoot. Mrs. Pope retired from the child care industry and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Willow Spring, NC.
Surviving include daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Clark Johnson of Angier; grandchildren, Whitney Leigh Gilmore and husband, William and Wesley Clark Johnson; great-granddaughter, Hadley Katherine Gilmore; and also an expected great-grandchild in three weeks; sisters, Elizabeth Wedding of Willow Spring, and Charlotte Walton of Willow Spring; brother, Rosyval Walton of Willow Spring; special niece, Tanja Carroll and husband, Jeff of Raleigh; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:45PM Wednesday, June 19, 2019 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Clark and Kathy Johnson, 25 Doug Johnson Lane, Angier, NC 27501.
