Smithfield – Larry James Massengill, age 75 passed away Thursday July 16, 2020 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh. He was born in Johnston County on December 25, 1944 to the late Herbert E. and Nellie Allen Massengill. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by wife, Linda Massengill; Brother, Dennis Massengill.
The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home Monday July 20, 2020 from 6 PM to 8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home Tuesday July 21, 2020 at 2 PM with burial to follow at Juniper Church Cemetery near Four Oaks.
Mr. Massengill is survived by sons, Larry Eugene Massengill of Smithfield and James Rodney Massengill and wife Sandy of West Chester, PA; Daughter, Denise Massengill Jernigan of Benson; Grandchildren, Joshua and Julia Massengill, Hailee and Brysan Jernigan; Sister, Joyce Rinehart of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Many nieces and nephews; Many kind hearted friends.
Mr. Massengill was a family man, A 32nd degree Mason of the Grand Lodge of Virginia since February 9, 1978. He was a graduate of Goldsboro High School. Mr. Massengill worked as a pipe fitter in his early years and eventually retired with the Department of Corrections.
