Lillian “Christine” Moore Creech, died on April 2, 2019, following a short illness and just shy of her 96th birthday. During her stay in the hospital, she was surrounded by her devoted family. She was born on April 7, 1923, the eldest of fifteen children of Lawrence Hoyt Moore and Clyde Lee Moore. She was married to the late Ersaleen White Creech and was preceded in death by brothers, Elwin Moore, L.H. Moore, Hoover Moore, Melvin Moore, Glenwood Moore, and Raeford Moore; and sisters, Gretchel Jones, Geraldine Powell, Marie Tyson, and Margaret Ann Moore.
Christine was a beautician in the Smithfield community for over 50 years. She loved being a business owner and the joys of working with people. She was independent and spirited. In addition to loving fine shoes, fishing, and dancing, she was known by her family for her Sunday dinners and her ability to cook the BEST fried chicken and biscuits. She would tell stories of being raised in a very loving, and large farming family, who put their faith and love of family above all else. She loved to sing, especially traditional hymns and “You are my Sunshine” and was a life-long member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Smithfield.
The family is especially grateful for the care and support of Smithfield Manor staff for the past 4 years.
She is survived by three children, Imogene Creech Wilson and husband, Mark Wilson; Jeanene Creech Bowman and husband, Jerry Bowman; and Ersaleen White Creech, Jr, and wife Angie Mull Creech. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Audrey Wooten; and brothers, Billy Moore, Robert Moore and Linwood Moore.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 4, from 5-7pm at the Underwood Funeral Home, 522 S. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 5, 11 am, at Hills of Neuse Memorial Gardens, 2838 S. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield, with Reverend David Wilson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to individual charities of choice.
