Smithfield, NC: Mrs. Myrtle Lee Clifton Kornegay, age 88, of Patricia Drive died Monday, November 16, 2020 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. A Memorial Service will be 3:00PM Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be her son, Stuart Barbour, Brother Mack Fowler, and Mr. David Penny.
Mrs. Kornegay was born October 15, 1932 in Johnston County to the late E. Victor and Flossie Parrish Clifton. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 55 years, Billy R. Kornegay; brothers and sisters, Beulah Mae Johnson, Alene Fowler, Leona Penny, James Clifton, Tom Clifton. Mrs. Kornegay was Miss. Johnston County in 1951 and worked for the North Carolina Department of Revenue during her early years. She was a fabulous Mother, MeeMaw, and homemaker. Mrs. Kornegay was devoted to her family and they will miss her dearly, especially her many stories.
Surviving are her son, Stuart Barbour and wife, Theresa of Smithfield; daughter, Cynthia Kornegay Cashwell and husband, Charles of Key Largo, Fl; granddaughter, Carrie Barbour and fiancé, Walker Riley of Austin, TX; numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
