Smithfield – Nellie Gray Ennis, age 91, passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home on Sunday October 24, 2021. She was born in Johnston County on October 29, 1929 to the late Barney Haywood and Pensy Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ennis; sons, Steve and Jeffrey Ennis.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday October 26, 2021 at 2 PM at New Life Baptist Church in Smithfield. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday at the church from 1 PM to 2 PM. Entombment will follow the service at Hills of the Neuse Memory Garden.
She was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church and served the Lord everywhere she went. She was known well for her sweet smile and friendly hugs to everyone that crossed her path.
Surviving are her son, Jerry and wife Sherry of Smithfield; daughter, Anita and husband Jerry of Garner; daughters in law, Karen Hemingway of Four Oaks and Sarah Ennis of Smithfield; grandchildren, Tracey Raynor and husband Jonathan of Four Oaks, Jennifer Ennis and Robert of Four Oaks, Joey Ennis of Garner, Josh Ennis of Smithfield, Jerry Denning Jr., of Raleigh, Jesse Denning and wife Cat of Raleigh and Jeffery Ennis of Four Oaks. She was also very proud of her 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to New Life Baptist Church 2075 Swift Creek Rd, Smithfield, NC 27577.
