Smithfield – Ralph Abram Whitley, age 92, died Wednesday morning in Smithfield Manor. Born August 21, 1925 in Johnston County, he was the last of nine children born to the late Clifton Lewis and Laura Evelyn Woodard Whitley, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Stasko. He was a retired supervisor with the J. P. Rogers Construction Company and a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Merle Norris Whitley, son, Timothy Ralph “Tim” Whitley of Smithfield; daughters, Amy Whitley Blackmon and husband David of Holly Springs and Allison Whitley Stewart and husband Jay of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Rebecca Stasko and Alexia Stewart and two great grandchildren, Eric Shaw and Maria Shaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either the First Baptist Church, 202 South F4th Street, Smithfield, NC 27577 or the Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
