Smithfield – Ruby Dowdy Freeman, age 94, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Born May 22, 1922 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Graham and Callie Ellis Dowdy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrill Tart Freeman; son, Danny Wayne Freeman; daughter, Rebecca Rose Daughtry; brother, Coolidge Dowdy; and grandson, Jason Tart Freeman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday just prior to the service.
Surviving are her sons, Sherrill Tart Freeman, Jr., W.T. Freeman, Charles Ray Freeman and wife Barbara, all of Smithfield; son-in-law, Jackie Daughtry of Clayton; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
