Samuel “Sammy” Roland Parrish, Jr.

    Samuel “Sammy” Roland Parrish Jr., passed away after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and doting sisters. After finishing his service in the US Army, Sammy came home to Johnston County. He was a home town boy and totally devoted to his mother and his mother in-law until their deaths. He owned and operated a car lot and enjoyed his contact with the public. He never met a stranger. He loved to make a deal and to give someone a deal. If someone needed a favor, errand run or just a friend to lend an ear he was always there. After his retirement he was always buying, selling or trading anything from golf cars to trucks. He enjoyed everything in its place, his yard, the house, the barn and most of all his trucks. His trademark was starched khaki shorts, usually he considered that the uniform. He enjoyed life. When diagnosed with cancer he took it with stride and said “carry on” and he did. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Samuel, his brother Bobby Parrish and his brother in law Buddy Talton. He leaves behind his wife Sharon Stanley Parrish of Smithfield, his daughters Nanette Faison (Ronnie) of Kittrell, and Sarah Worley (Yancey Williams) of Clayton, his son Paul Worley (Beverly) of Clayton, his sisters Linda Poole (Harold) of Selma, Faye Langston (Jay) of Micro and Kaye Talton of Goldsboro. He also left three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that he adored and they adored him. He will truly be missed.
    A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday June 5, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
