Benson, NC: Mr. Sherrill Massengill, age 90, of 403 West Woodall Street, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church outside Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. Rodney Wilson and Curtis Tatum. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with American Legion Honors.
Mr. Massengill was born September 26, 1929 in Johnston County to the late Robert Gideon and Cassie Lee Massengill. He was also preceded in death by his brother, R.G. Massengill, Jr. Mr. Massengill was a proud US Army Veteran that served during the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion Banner Post #109. He retired with 41 years of service from Medlin and Dorman Hardware Store in Benson.
Surviving include his wife of 60 years, Faye McGee Massengill; daughters, Sherry M. Dixon and husband, Michael and Sheila Massengill all of Benson; grandchildren, Tara Dixon, Kristin Dixon, Candace Mewborn and Faith Massengill; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Olivia, Ella, Elijah and Charlee; brother, Larry Massengill and wife, Sylvia of Four Oaks; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 1:30 PM-2:45PM Sunday, January 12, 2020 prior to the service at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church outside Four Oaks and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the SECU Hospice House, PO Box 1376 Smithfield, NC 27577.
