Benson, NC: Mr. Sherrill Samuel Herring, age 79, of Meadowbrook Road passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Services will be 11:00AM Friday, September 10, 2021 at Reedy Prong Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Dunn. Officiating will be Rev. Wesley Hamilton.
Mr. Herring was born on October 3, 1941 in Johnston County to the late Robert Samuel and Elizabeth Herring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Massengill Herring; son, Sammy Herring; sisters, Maggie Jackson and Eula Creech; brothers, James “Dick” Herring and Carl Herring. Mr. Herring was a retired farmer.
Surviving include his daughter, Joan Capps and husband, Tony of Four Oaks; daughter-in-law, Tammy Herring of Erwin; grandchildren, Teara Roberts and husband, Ryan, Heather Beasley and husband, Jordan, Samantha Herring and Braxton Herring; great-grandchildren, Emmersyn Roberts and Rhett Roberts; special friend, Ruby Stewart of Erwin; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Herring will be available for viewing, and you may sign the register book from 11:00AM-6:00PM, Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC. The family will not be present during this time.
The family will receive friends other times at the home of Joan and Tony Capps, 5659 US 301 South Four Oaks, NC 27524.
In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
