Sylvester James Williams was born October 9, 1952, to Henry and Leola Williams in Smithfield, NC.
Sylvester was a graduate of Smithfield-Selma Senior High School where he played football, which led to him also playing football for Winston-Salem State University where he graduated in 1975.
Sylvester was a diligent worker who took great care of his many patients throughout his almost 30-year career at WakeMed (Skilled Nursing, Fuquay-Varina). He also worked part-time for several years doing private duty nursing. He later worked at Pruitt Health Care, continuing his excellence in patient care, where he retired.
Sylvester married Linda Bradley, August 14, 1981. He was the father of Jessica and Jaimie. He loved all of his girls. He took great joy in watching his daughters grow up. He enjoyed watching sports (basketball and football), golfing, laughing, grilling, eating, watching movies and listening to all kinds of music. In his later years you could find him in his favorite chair watching tv, and just “chilling,” but we all knew he was also observing. He proudly took on the role of “Papa” and his grandchildren love him dearly.
Sylvester departed this life on May 26, 2021, at UNC Rex Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Leola Williams, and his brothers: Henry Williams, Jr. and Archie Bennett.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Linda B. Williams, children: Jessica Chapman (Derrik) of Whitsett, NC and Jaimie Williams of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren: Kendall Chapman, Caden Chapman, Trinity Chapman, and Bradley Chapman; sister, Wanda Robinson of Albermarle, NC; sister-in-law, Rosie Bennett of Norwood, NC; sister-in-law, Charlotte Watson of Smithfield, NC; sister-in-law, Saundra Bradley of Smithfield, NC, sister-in-law, Carrie Bradley of Smithfield, NC and brother-in-law, William Lawrence Bradley (Nell), of Smithfield, NC. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, including the “Mod Squad”-whom he loved very much.
