    Benson, NC: Ted Merrill Penny of Benson, North Carolina passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the age of 72. Ted died peacefully at home, encircled by his loving immediate family, including his beloved wife Linda, their 2 sons, his daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren. The Penny Family will hold private services.
    Ted was born in Jacksonville, NC on September 13, 1948 to the late Herbert Leslie Penny and Lettie Howard Penny. He was preceded in death by his brothers Tommy and Tucker Penny, and his sister Dorothy Boisvert. Ted had 5 brothers and 1 sister. As a young man, Ted served in the National Guard for several years. He met Linda at church in Morehead City, North Carolina. They were married in August of 1969. Together they raised a small family and lived in a number of cities in North Carolina and Virginia, including Morehead City, New Bern, High Point, Wendell, Benson (NC), and Roanoke and Virginia Beach (VA).
    Ted’s professional career included various positions with Murray Baking Company, Frito-Lay/Pepsi, and McKee Baking Company. After more than 20 years as a Regional Sales Director for Little Debbie/McKee Baking Company, Ted retired in 2010. Ted was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family, working/playing outside, and golfing with friends. Ted will be remembered as a devoted, giving and proud husband, father and grandfather. His sense of humor, smile and laughter was enjoyed by everyone who knew him well and will be forever missed.
    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Eborn Penny, two sons, Jeffrey Wayne Penny and wife Tammy of Apex, Steven Mark Penny and wife Lisa of Garner; four grandchildren Nicholas Payton Penny, Mackenzie Dupree Penny, Devin Bryce Penny, and Reagan Alexis Penny; and brothers Timmy Penny, Tony Penny, and Trent Penny.
    In accordance with the current NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash and wear a face covering. A mask is required for the services.
