    SELMA – Virgil Rolland Brown, age 98, died Friday afternoon in Four Oaks Senior Living Center. Born November 28, 1918 in Johnston County to the late William Argo and Leah Blanche Wall Brown, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Cockrell Brown on September 24, 2013 and his son Lloyd Clifton Brown. Mr. Brown was an active member of Carter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he sang with and once led the choir for many years.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Carter’s Chapel Missionary Baptists Church with the Rev. Calvin Edgerton and the Rev. Tim Sitter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service.

    Surviving are his sons, Virgil Brown and wife Pat of Garner and Douglas Brown and wife Debbie of Clayton; daughter-in-law, Janie Brown of Selma; brothers, Rev. Willard Brown and Herman Brown both Selma; sister, Margaret Upchurch of Raleigh; grandchildren, Michael Brown, David Brown, Lorri Toole, Stephanie Richter, Michelle Church, Sarah Katz and Emily Brown and great grandchildren, Stuart Brown, Patrick Brown, Jamison Clifton, Lawrence Toole and Carson Church.
