Virginia Mae Scott

    Kenly – Virginia Mae Bass Scott, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by her family.

    Virginia was born in Johnston County on May 5, 1931 to the late Johnny Turner Bass and Teresa Ferrell Bass. She was married for 69 years to the late Cleveland Edward Scott. Virginia was a member of Pittman Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

    Virginia will be remembered by many for her work as a seamstress and a cook. At all the family gatherings, the dishes prepared by Virginia were always sought out and her cakes were to die for. Virginia will be missed but will be greatly remembered.

    The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service followed by a service to celebrate Virginia’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Elder Garland Vick officiating. Interment will be in the Kenly Cemetery.

    Virginia is survived by her son, Keith Scott and wife Audrey of Kenly; daughters, Dianne Taylor and husband Al of Garner and Faye Brunson and husband David of Clayton; grandchildren, Bronson Boykin, Justin Taylor, Candace Taylor, Kelly Smith, Carla Bacon and Daniel Scott; great-grandchildren, Scott Woodard, Carmen Saullo, Savannah Taylor, Carter Boykin, Addison Saullo, Peyton Scott and Mason Scott. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Jeffries and Peggy Waddell and husband Jackie; and brother, Barney Bass and wife Margie.

    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bethany Aman and Elgie Tedder; and brothers, Buster Bass and Henry Bass.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the SECU Hospice House, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
