William Carroll Wooten

    William Carroll Wooten, age 82, died Tuesday evening at Country Side Village in Pikeville. Born December 2, 1937 in Greene County to the late Abe and Etheleen Heath Wooten, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Wooten. Carroll worked with public education in Johnston County for 36 years, first as a teacher and later as assistant principal/Football coach, with Smithfield Selma High School and later with Princeton School. He was a member of the Progressive Presbyterian Church near his home for many years.
    A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Smithfield. The family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. just prior to the service.
    Surviving are his wife, Pamela Wooten; sons, Mike Wooten and wife Paula of Princeton and Whit Wooten and wife Mandy of Clayton; step-son, Larry David Whitley and wife Marilyn of Morehead City; sister, Sandra Farrior of Farmville; eight grandchildren, Michael Wooten, Meredith Wooten, Trent Wooten, Jessi Wooten, Joshua Wooten, Christopher Pounds, Brandy Holmes and Alex Wooten; two step-grandchildren, Caleb Whitley and Noah Whitley and four great grandchildren.
