JOHNSTON COUNTY — One person was killed Sunday in an officer-involved shooting in Johnston County. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Madden Rose Loop, off Pearce Road, in the Cleveland community.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a residence after a family member reported that someone had been firing a gun inside the home and requested assistance. When deputies arrived, the individual confronted them with a firearm.

Deputies attempted to get the person to put down the weapon, but were unsuccessful. During the confrontation the individual was shot and killed. The person’s name has not been released. No deputies were injured.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, which is standard in officer-involved shootings. The deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is also standard protocol.

Additional information is expected to be released by the NCSBI.

  1. Oh well. Learn to obey law enforcement orders and you will live to see another day. It’s not a difficult concept to understand.

    • You don’t know what a person has been through or is going through this person could have mental issues. We should all be compassionate as human beings and think about the person’s family, who is undoubtably reading this.

  2. RIP dad. It saddens me that you felt that this was your way to go. You’ve impacted my life in so many ways, it’ll take a thousand years to pay you back. I know you. I know your goal wasn’t to hurt ever anyone. But I’ll do my best to accept your decision. You will always be missed, loved & cherished. And to the Johnson Co. deputies, I completely understand your actions. You all have family’s to make it home to at the end of the day and I thank you for responding to the emergency call promptly.

  3. Zee, That took real courage to come on here and state that. I can only imagine the pain you and your family feel but you also need to understand that there was nothing you or anyone else can do once a person makes the decision to end their life. No amount of counseling ,IVC, medication can compete with someone who has made their mind up. Unfortunately an officer was brought in on it and set up to do what he had to do and what your father wanted. Hopefully he gave his life to Jesus before he did it. Much love and respect to you and your family.

  4. R.I.P pops. I here sitting in disbelief. My heart is a million pieces right now. You have always been my hero. You taught me to be the man I am today. Thank you for all your love and everything you have done for me and my family. I don’t care what these people are saying on this post, you were a great man. A man that served his country. You are the reason I serve. You will always be loved and missed. Love your son ❤️

  5. Terrible human for forcing an officer to do that. Definitely a weak minded individual to make an officer do this…
