One Person Killed In Sampson County Collision

SAMPSON COUNTY – One person died in a collision between a pickup truck and tractor trailer. It happened at 8:17pm Saturday on US 421 at Mount Gilead Church Road.

The Highway Patrol said a 2024 Freightliner transporting pallets was traveling south on US 421. A 2007 Toyota Tacoma was traveling east on Mount Gilead Church Road and failed to yield at the stop sign to the oncoming Freightliner. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The pickup was forced off the roadway to the left coming to rest 210 feet from the point of impact. The semi ran off the roadway to the right and came to rest partially in a ditch.

The driver of the Freightliner, William James Brinson Jr., 60, of Kenansville, NC, was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota, Bivino Velasquez Morales, age 41, of Cary, NC, was killed on impact.
