Turnout has been steady today (Wednesday) at all three one-stop early voting locations in Johnston County.
Voting for the November 6th general elections began today and will continue until Saturday, November 3rd.
The three early voting sights are the First Baptist Church Ministry Center at 125 S. 4th Street in Smithfield, The Church at Clayton Crossing at 11407 US Highway 70 West, Clayton, and the JCC Cleveland Campus at 9046 Cleveland Road, Clayton.
The locations will be open Monday – Friday from 7:00AM until 7:00PM and on Saturday’s from 8:00AM until 1:00PM.
Board of Elections Director Leigh Anne Price said turnout has been steady. In fact, Price said there were more voters casting ballots on the first day than she had expected.
At the Smithfield voting location, a tabulation machine stopped working and voters were allowed to place ballots in an Emergency Bin until the machine could be fixed. Some voters did not want to use the emergency bin. About 12 people waiting until the machine was fixed so they could place the ballot in the machine themselves.
As of 11:00am, 200 people had voted in Smithfield, 70 at the JCC Cleveland site, and 252 in Clayton.
