Judge Michael Onufer has announced his candidacy to keep his seat as a District Court Judge for the 11th Judicial District comprised of Harnett, Johnston and Lee Counties.
Prior to being appointed as a District Court Judge, he served as an Assistant District Attorney for Harnett and Lee Counties for four years after a four year tenure as an Assistant Public Defender in Cumberland County.
Judge Onufer stated, “I am a blue collar guy with a white collar job. I didn’t go to college until I was 32 and had already worked in lawn care, construction, a boat yard, and moved furniture. I am the son of a cop and a postal worker, I had never imagined being a lawyer, and now I have fulfilled my life-long dream of being a judge.”
Onufer was the past chair of the Cumberland County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and has served on the same council for Harnett County. His wife, Nikki, is a teacher for Highland Middle School in Harnett County. They attend Pine Valley Methodist Church and reside in Coats, NC.
