Patrick Harris Named Commission Chairman

SMITHFIELD — Commissioner Patrick Harris was unanimously appointed chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners on Monday, succeeding R.S. “Butch” Lawter, who had served in the role for the past three years.
The board’s leadership reorganization began with a motion by Commissioner Ted Godwin to name Harris as chairman. The motion was seconded by Commissioner April Stephens and passed without opposition.
Following the vote, Godwin made a motion to appoint Lawter as vice chairman of the board. Stephens again offered a second, and the motion was unanimously approved.
After the leadership changes were finalized, Harris presented Lawter with a plaque in recognition of his three years of service as board chairman.
