Pavement Improvements Coming To U.S. 264 In Wilson County
WILSON, N.C. – About 4.5 miles of U.S. 264 from the Nash-Wilson county line to the Interstate 95 interchange will undergo pavement rehabilitation.
The N.C. Department of Transportation recently approved a $5.8 million contract to mill away the existing asphalt, which is beginning to deteriorate and crack, and replace it with new asphalt. This project will make the highway smoother for motorists and extend the service life of the roadway.
The work also will include asphalt shoulder reconstruction that will require a continuous lane closure for about two months in each direction. The remaining work will require daytime lane closures, except during the morning and evening commutes.
Wilson-based S.T. Wooten Corp. can begin the project later this spring, and will have until the summer of 2027 to complete the work.
