Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Train
CLAYTON — A pedestrian was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by an Amtrak train in Clayton.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. near the railroad tracks at Stallings Street. Clayton Police responded to a report of a collision involving a train and a pedestrian and confirmed the incident resulted in a fatality.
Amtrak Train 79, the Carolinian, which was traveling northbound toward Raleigh with a destination of Charlotte at the time of the collision.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The incident marks the fourth person killed in a collision with a train in Clayton since June 2025.

4 dead by train in 8 months…. What’s wrong here
Some people just don’t pay attention. The one fatality of my career with the RR would not have happened if the young man had waited 2 minutes. Two minutes for his life. Please think people as no engineer wants to ever see this happen.

In Four Oaks trains cannot blow their horns, even at crossing, the crossing’s arms come down but no train horn. Pray for the children🙏🙏🙏🙏

Trains outrun their noise. You won’t have time to react by the time you hear them.
These trains are traveling 65-69 mph in townships that do not have pedestrian crossing or pedestrian walkways. The trains are traveling at peak times of foot traffic and events. Let’s also mention there is marked parking on the other side of the tracks and steps that lead you there in certain parts of downtown that encourages people to cross the tracks. Be sensitive making comments about others and situations you don’t understand. Families see these post!!
Those families that see these post need to make sure their children are with them when they cross a train track. Trains can’t stop on a dime and they don’t have to wait on pedestrians. Its the other way around.
Suicide by train, not a bad way to get the job done I guess. There’s a metal health crises, just ask any first responder, it’s 24 hours a day. Build those facilities protect the public…
Pretty sure it’s MENTAL health… use spell check every now and again before you go posting on a website… Pretty sure you also can’t speak for 1st responders unless you are one… There are facilities for the MENTAL health but doctors refuse to take them and insurance companies refuse to pay for treatment… I know this for a fact because I once worked at a MENTAL hospital and saw how they treated people and refused to take people saying that there were no beds when the hospital had a whole open floor at the facility… Then refused to take people because the insurance was accepted there… Got to love State Hospitals…
What is this, the fourth person killed by a train in Clayton in the last year? Years ago the Town of Clayton said they were going to close several RR crossings to Front St, for safety. They also stated the they would not extend Front St to NC 42. Well we all know what happened, Front St was extended to 42 and the RR crossings were closed so they could extend to 42. So by my account that’s TWO Lies from the Town. Now the issue is people are being killed because of this decision (granted people should use common sense) maybe the Town should be held accountable for these bad decisions (aka Lies) that are putting lives at risk just to appease developers.
Maybe you shouldn’t type things on a public forum to solidify the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about… Someone, needs a hug for sure. Pretty sure the people being hit by trains were a decision the person made not an accident.. Plus, if the town didn’t develop the commerce would never grow and people’s salaries would not go up…
I do know what I’m talking about. I was at the Town council meetings that closed the RR crossings and when the Town council stated that they wouldn’t extend Front Street. At that time the the lead Town planner resigned and went to work for the RR. A year later the same planner resigned from the RR and came back to take Senior planner he previously held (the town never filled the position) if you actually read my comment, I did state that a person should use common sense when crossing the RR tracks. If the town didn’t close those original crossings maybe people would be crossing at those crossings that were marked and had safety devices. So @ I think I know the truth, maybe you should get your facts straight before you spout off!!!!!!
Oh no, you put me in my place. You attended the town meeting… Man, I am so sorry for making a statement that’s true… Any town will choose to grow and make more income over some street development. So I was referring to “lies” they told.. They’re politicians of course they lie, it’s how they get and keep their jobs. So quit being butt hurt when greedy people do what greedy people do…

So……4 suicides by train since June 2025. Trains do not jump off the tracks and chase people! You actually have to be on the tracks to get hit by a train. It takes some trains over a mile to come to a complete stop, DON’T LINGER ON THE TRACKS PEOPLE!! Stop, look, listen, then if clear both ways, hurry across the tracks. Simple.
Why don’t we outlaw trains. That would keep everyone alive, and safe.

All trains are required by law to sound their horns when approaching highway-railroad grade crossings. This requirement is governed by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) under the Train Horn Rule (49 CFR Part 222).
There are designated ‘Quiet Zones’ for certain crossings on all Class 1 railroads where they are not required to sound horn.
