A Meadow resident was struck and killed by a train Sunday morning. It happened on NW Railroad Street and West Church Street, near the Highway 301 overpass, in Benson.
Around 1:47 AM, Amtrak train #98, headed from Miami to New York, struck 44 year-old Aaron Scott Gill of the 1700 block of Reedy Prong Church Road, Newton Grove, as Gill was reportedly lying on the tracks.
Benson Police said the train engineer blew the horn multiple times but Gill did not make an attempt to move. There was no injury to the passengers or crew.
The train was delayed for more than 3 hours while Benson Police and CSX Police investigating the fatal incident.
