Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

SELMA — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night near Selma, and authorities have seized a vehicle possibly involved.

The collision occurred about 9:12 p.m. Jan. 10 on Crocker Street near Pine Level–Selma Road, according to First Sgt. Michael A. Goldsmith of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the pedestrian, identified as Frank Joseph Lotruglio, 56, of Smithfield, was walking south in the roadway with a friend when he was struck by a southbound passenger vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene, continuing south on Crocker Street.

Lotruglio was pronounced dead at the scene.

Goldsmith told The Johnston County Report that investigators have seized a vehicle in connection with the accident investigation, but no arrests have been made. Search warrants for the vehicle and a cellphone are expected to be executed with assistance from the State Highway Patrol’s Reconstruction Unit and the State Bureau of Investigation.

The crash remains under investigation.

  1. I’m so sorry. That is a bad road, as my (late)husband was walking home on that road in 2009. I pray that an arrest is made, because Noone was arrested in his murder.

  2. The pedestrian who was struck and killed was homeless living on the streets of Smithfield. Interesting they left that detail out. I doubt the authorities really spend much time on this case, make any arrests, or even charge anybody. Smithfield and Selma don’t give a da*n about the homeless population!

  3. Yes I agree with that sentiment about the homeless so its good that the ncshp is investigating the hit and run that resulted in franks death ,hopefully an arrest will be soon forth coming i pray on Jesus holy name amen
