Garner Police are investigating a fatal accident Wednesday afternoon.
At 4:26pm, police said Jason Aaron Jones, 36, of Clayton was driving a 2015 Porsche SUV on the exit ramp from I-40 East to Highway 70 East when he ran off the road to the right and struck a pedestrian, 47 year-old James Allen Lucas, of no known address. After striking Lucas, the SUV struck a guardrail then a bridge. Lucas was fatally injured.
Garner Police, with the assistance of the NC Highway Patrol, are continuing their investigation. No contributing circumstances have been determined, police said in a press release, and no charges have been filed.
