Pedestrian Safety Upgrades Approved Near Eva Ennis Splash Pad
SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Town Council has approved $6,750 for pedestrian safety improvements at the Eva Ennis Splash Pad, fulfilling a request made by the late Councilman Marlon Lee before his passing.
The project, included in the new fiscal year budget by Town Manager Mike Scott, will add speed humps and solar-powered LED warning signs along MLK Jr. Drive at the pedestrian crossing. The signs will flash continuously to alert drivers of the speed humps and improve safety in the area.
The Town Council unanimously approved the measure on August 5.
The signs will be installed as soon as they are received. Officials estimate that will take about 30 days.
