A 52 year-old man was struck and killed by a CSX train early Thursday morning in Smithfield.
Police, fire and EMS crews responded to the scene of the collision around 12:15am near the area of South 9th Street and East Market Street and the railroad tracks.
The pedestrian was identified as Randy Hall. He died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Police Captain R. Sheppard said no foul play is suspected.

On July 13th, a 41 year-old woman was struck and killed by a CSX train while attempting to cross the tracks in Downtown Kenly. Reports suggest the batteries went dead on the motorized wheelchair and the paralyzed woman was unable to get off the tracks to avoid being hit.
