Pedestrian Struck By Wrong Way Vehicle On I-40
JOHNSTON COUNTY – A domestic incident on Interstate 40 in Johnston County left a Durham woman with serious injuries. It happened around 5:09am Saturday, April 12.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to a report of a wrong-way driver traveling on Interstate 40 near Highway 42 (Exit 312).
Johnston County deputies found a 52 year-old woman beside the interstate who had been struck by the wrong way vehicle.
The victim said she had been traveling with a male acquaintance on I-40 when they got into a verbal argument. The man reportedly pushed her from the vehicle.
The driver then turned around, traveling in the wrong direction, and hit the woman with his vehicle. He sped away from the scene.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Warrants were obtained for the suspect charging him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault on a female, and misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. The suspect’s name was not released pending his apprehension.
