Pedestrian Struck In Downtown Smithfield

SMITHFIELD – A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a pickup truck on Market Street in Downtown Smithfield. It happened at 1:14pm Tuesday at the corner of Market and Fourth Street.

Police said a 59 year-old woman was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a Chevy pickup making a turn from Fourth Street onto Market Street to travel eastbound.

The pickup, driven by a 75 year-old Garner man, was equipped with a dash camera which aided with the investigation. The driver told police he failed to see the pedestrian enter the roadway.

The woman was transported to Wake Medical Center by Johnston County EMS with minor injuries.

No charges were filed.

  1. Downtown Smithfield not a safe place to walk anyway due to 4 lanes on Market Street that are actually only 3 1/2 lanes wide. Scary.
