SMITHFIELD – A McGee’s Crossroads area resident filed Friday for the NC House District 28 seat. Timmy Penny of Zack’s Mill Road, Angier filed this morning at the Johnston County Board of Elections Office in Smithfield.
Mr. Penny retired from Food Lion and Scotchman convenience stores. He currently buys and sells items on eBay and runs a flea market booth at Harpers Flea Market in Smithfield.
Penny, a Democrat, is seeking to unseat incumbent Republican Representative Larry Strickland who filed for re-election earlier this week.
Penny said his priorities are equality, education, the economy, and the environment. “My number one priority is the environment. I want clean water and a clean environment for my children and grandchildren and everyone’s children and grandchildren. Number two, I want everyone to be treated equal, black, white, gay, straight, Presbyterian or Baptist. Number three, I want to take education standards back to Bob Scott and Jim Hunt standards and number four bring teachers pay up to the top in the nation. Not fourth, third or second, but number one teacher pay in the nation. If I can accomplish these goals the economy will take care of itself.”
The filing period remains open through next Friday, Dec. 20th at 12 Noon.
