Pickup Collides With Fire Truck

FOUR OAKS – A fire truck was involved in a traffic accident while returning to the station following a call. The accident involved Four Oaks Volunteer Fire Department Engine One and a pickup towing a trailer and mower.

It happened around 6:15pm Saturday on S. Main Street at W. Allen Street in Four Oaks.

According to Four Oaks Police, the fire engine was traveling northbound on S. Main Street followed by the pickup. The operator of the fire engine activated his right turn signal to turn onto W. Allen Street. The fire engine then moved partially into the center turn lane to make the sharp right turn. While making the turn, the pickup tried to pass the fire truck on the right side.

The right side of the fire engine collided with the left side of the pickup. The impact separated the trailer from the pickup.

No injuries were reported. The driver of the pickup was determined to be at fault.

Initial damage to the fire engine was estimated at $15,000, according to police.

  1. I sometimes wonder where people’s minds are. When you see any big truck, tractor-trailer, straight truck or even fire trucks, please give them plenty of space.

  2. It was the fire departments fault . The police wrote a ticket to the driver so the town wouldn’t have to pay for the damage ! It was a bunch of kids driving the fire truck and they went into the other lane when making a turn .

  3. Unless you were involved in this or had a family member involved you need to keep quiet, & for your information it was NOT a bunch of kids driving the fire truck

  4. And how was it the fire department’s fault when the driver of the pickup tried to pass them on the passenger side of the fire truck as they were turning Right?? Talk your crap hope you never need them day because if you do I hope that “bunch of youngins” doesn’t show up for ya

  5. If anyone that drives anything big. Should know these trucks off track the rear tires. So swinging wide is needed. With tight streets and roads all over joco this is needed to gain access to these locations. So with a obvious right turn signal on these should of been a indication that the driver was …….wait for it. Turning right !!!! Why try to pass. And the comment about a “bunch of kids”. I find that pretty hard to believe simply because no fire departments of that magnitude is going to just allow someone come in and drive a truck without the knowledge of driving the truck. From the sounds of what the driver was doing by “turning wide”. He knew exactly what he was doing.
