Pickup Hit By Amtrak Train

SELMA — A pickup truck driver was injured early Thursday after authorities say he drove around lowered crossing arms and was struck by an Amtrak train in Selma.

Selma police responded to the crash around 12:35 a.m. on Lizzie Mill Road. According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford F-150 driven by a 46-year-old man entered the railroad crossing despite the safety guard arms being fully operational and in the down position.

Police said the truck bypassed the arms and was hit on its right side by an oncoming Amtrak train.

The driver, whose name was not released, was taken by EMS to WakeMed for head injuries. No injuries were reported among the train’s passengers or crew, and the train sustained little to no damage, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
