SELMA – A Johnston County sheriff’s deputy drove up an a motor vehicle accident, Monday afternoon. The mishap occurred almost in front of the officer, near the intersection of NC 96 North and Little Divine Road.

The pickup truck driver was towing a new trailer with a new zero-turn mower, and other tools on board, when he turned from NC 96 onto Little Divine and found someone in his lane.

The pickup driver quickly veered off the road to miss the oncoming car and immediately found himself sliding in the wet grass, off the road and into a deep ditch full of water.

The apparently uninjured Vietnam War veteran driver was able to climb out the older model truck more worried about the mower and truck than himself.

“I hope the truck is alright,” he said. “It was my Daddy’s old one and he took really good care of it.”

Traffic on Little Divine Road was disrupted for a time as the mowing rig was pulled out with less damage than expected. A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Student Resource Officer (SRO) on patrol went “above and beyond” as he helped clear the roadway by shoveling debris.

  1. The JCSO always goes above and beyond the call of duty. Also, glad the driver was uninjured, and I hope they find the driver of the other vehicle.
