PIT Maneuver Ends Chase On I-95

BENSON, N.C. — A high-speed chase that spanned several counties ended Friday afternoon on Interstate 95 near Benson after a PIT maneuver successfully stopped a fleeing pickup truck.

The pursuit reportedly began in Hope Mills when police tried to stop the vehicle following a license plate hit from a Flock camera reader. The chase continued through Cumberland, Harnett, and Johnston counties.

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers attempted an initial PIT maneuver that failed to stop the vehicle. A second attempt brought the truck to a halt. Two patrol cars sustained minor damage in the process.

Two people inside the pickup were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation before being taken to jail.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the vehicle’s license plate was tied to an ongoing U.S. Marshals Service investigation.

  1. Good job to those guys in blue, it could have ended very badly. I was there. I actually helped to slow him enough so they could pit him safely. He passed me on the left after trying to pass on the right, I brake checked him . Jersey barriers collapsed back against me on the right, blocking his efforts. He went to the left lane, his left rear tire was destroyed and came apart next to me. Two troopers moved foward and did a pit maneuver 150 ft ahead of me.
