CLAYTON – Clayton Police patrol officers and detectives conducted an information checkpoint Sunday morning on Highway 70 Business West at Medical Park Place near the scene of a fatal hit and run crash that happened there two weeks earlier.
Police Chief Greg Tart said 400 informational flyers were distributed to motorists traveling through the area in an attempt to gather more information about the hit and run vehicle. Police are trying to located a white 2007-2012 GMC Acadia believed to be involved.
On October 3rd around 6:20am, investigators said a red 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup stopped partially in the right lane of Highway 70 West and two people exited the truck on the left side. Both individuals and the pickup were struck by the Acadia.
Edgardo Antonio Medina, 32, of Raleigh, was dragged several feet by the Acadia as it fled. He died at the scene. The second victim, Francisco Gil Gervacio, 42, of Raleigh, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The Acadia should have damage to the front end or side area.
Anyone who has any information regarding the fatal hit and run investigation or any information regarding the GMC Acadia is asked to contact Clayton Police at 919-553-4611. Callers may remain anonymous.
