Police: Juvenile Intentionally Crashes Stolen Car Into Business

SMITHFIELD – A local business sustained extensive damage after a juvenile crashed a stolen SUV into the building to reportedly break-in.

Around 1:18am Friday, January 31, Smithfield Police were dispatched to a burglar alarm at Moe’s Tobacco & Vape at 1257 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. Officers found the front of the business had been smashed open by a vehicle that had fled the scene.

The juvenile stole approximately $102 in tobacco products before leaving the scene on the vehicle. Police said the stolen 2019 Kia SUV was located a short distance away and the juvenile driver was arrested.

The Kia sustained approximately $6,500 in damage. The business sustained about $15,000 in damage.

The name of the suspect was not released due to their young age.
