Police Search For Suspects In Smithfield Carjacking

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Police are investigating a reported carjacking and armed robbery that occurred Tuesday evening along East Johnston Street.

According to the Smithfield Police Department, the incident was reported around 5:49 p.m. on March 31 in the 600 block of East Johnston Street.

Authorities said one or possibly two suspects, armed with guns, arrived in a white vehicle and approached a 28-year-old man who was sitting inside his car. The suspects allegedly robbed the victim of a small amount of cash before stealing his vehicle, described as a Ford passenger car.

There were conflicting witness reports regarding whether one or two suspects were involved.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

As of the latest update, the stolen vehicle had not been recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing.
