Police: Smithfield-Selma High Bomb Threat Was A Hoax

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Smithfield Police are investigating after a bomb threat involving Smithfield-Selma High School was posted on social media Tuesday night, but officers say the threat was a hoax.

Police said they were notified by the FBI after federal agents became aware of an Instagram post referencing the school.

Officers quickly identified a Smithfield-Selma High School student and contacted the juvenile and his mother.

Police said the student admitted making the post but told officers it was intended as a joke.

Investigators determined there was no actual threat to the school.

Because of the seriousness of the incident, police said the 14-year-old is expected to face juvenile petitions.
