Police: Smithfield Woman Stole $124K From Local Business

SMITHFIELD — A Smithfield woman is facing felony charges after police say she stole more than $124,000 from a local business.
The investigation began Nov. 6, when management at SweetFrog, located at 1261 N. Brightleaf Boulevard, reported a large amount of money missing from the business. According to police, roughly $124,819 was embezzled over a three-and-a-half-year period.
Detectives said the suspect, Crystal Gayle Flood, 46, of U.S. Highway 70 East in Smithfield, had worked at SweetFrog since 2022 and was responsible for making the store’s bank deposits. Investigators allege that Flood skimmed funds from multiple deposits, taking small amounts over time that eventually added up to more than $124,000.
Flood was arrested on Nov. 7 and charged with felony embezzlement in excess of $100,000. She was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond.
Smithfield Police said the case remains under investigation.

It took three and a half years and 124k to figure out she was taking money. Poor upper management.
I can’t believe it. This business probably has to watch $ anyways to stay above water, so I don’t understand how that could have happened without getting someone’s attention.
Well, don’t that make her brown eyes blue.
@click…..I see what you did there!!! Too funny!!!!😂 🤣 🤣
They probably already knew she was stealing, they were building up a case on her.
