Police: Stolen Gun Recovered During Traffic Stop

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Smithfield police officers recovered a stolen handgun and seized marijuana during a traffic stop.
According to the Smithfield Police Department, an officer stopped a 2011 Honda around 10:51 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 along Outlet Center Drive.
During the stop, a police K-9 alerted on the vehicle, prompting officers to conduct a search of the car.
Police said they located a Glock handgun, 227 rounds of ammunition, approximately 29 grams of suspected marijuana, and marijuana paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Investigators said a check of the firearm’s serial number revealed the handgun had been reported stolen in Columbia, South Carolina.
Branden Lee Burgos, 33, of New York, NY was arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Burgos was placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.
