The cause of a fire that destroyed a large barn near Princeton is under investigation.
Monday morning, flames leveled the two-story barn at 161 Old Rock Quarry Road.
The Princeton, Pine Level and Micro Fire Departments responded to the fire. Johnston County EMS workers stood by to assist firefighters because of the heat.
Johnston County Fire Marshal Kevin Hubbard said a Ford Explorer parked under the barn was also destroyed. Heat from the intense flames also damaged an adjacent house.
Hubbard said the fire was not suspicious but because of the extensive damage the origin could not be determined.
The property was owned by Dr. C.D. Peedin of Roanoke Rapids.
