Buies Creek – Campbell tight end Michael Wooten of Princeton, NC has been named to the 2019 Academic All-District District 3 Football Team, as selected by CoSIDA.
This season, the redshirt senior has started all nine of CU’s games at tight end, extending his start streak to 30. Wooten was a Big South All-Academic Team member in 2018, also garnering Phil Steele Second Team Big South All-Conference honors. Named 2019 Preseason All-Big South, Wooten totaled 13 catches for 73 yards last season. Wooten is a kinesiology major (pre-physical therapy), set to graduate in December 2019.
Earlier this season, Wooten was also named one of 185 semifinalists for the 2019 William V. Campbell Trophy Presented by Mazda. Celebrating its 30th year in 2019, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
A 2019 Preseason All-Big South pick, Wooten was tabbed Second Team Big South All-Conference by Phil Steele last season, also earning Big South All-Academic Team, and Big South Presidential Honor Roll merits in 2018.
Wooten was also named to the Pioneer Football League’s Academic Honor Roll three times prior to Campbell’s move to the Big South Conference, earning Second Team Academic All-PFL accolades as a redshirt sophomore in 2017.
The 2019 Academic All-District® Football Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 9-12.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Michael is the son of Mike and Paula Wooten of Princeton. He has a sister, Meredith. Michael is a member of the Princeton Church of God.
