An elderly woman was the victim of a purse snatching Tuesday morning outside a popular Smithfield business.
The 74 year-old Clayton woman said she was sitting on a bench outside the Cracker Barrel on Outlet Center Drive around 11:30am when a suspicious man began walking back and forth on the sidewalk. The suspect grabbed the victims purse and fled towards a car waiting nearby and sped away from the scene.
The victim was unable to give Smithfield Police a good description of the suspect, only that he was a white male, about 5 foot 7, with dark hair and dark shorts. The getaway vehicle was described as a silver older model four door passenger car.
Police searched the area but could not locate the vehicle or the suspect. The victim was not harmed.
