Report: Driver Pulls Gun While Demanding To Know Victim’s Immigration Status

SELMA – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a firearm. Officers were called to the intersection of NC 42 East and Thanksgiving Fire Road Sunday morning, July 28.

A 26 year-old Hispanic female was standing at the intersection selling flowers when an unknown female stopped her vehicle. The suspect reportedly produced a handgun and demanded to know the immigration status of the Hispanic woman.

The victim said the firearm was never pointed towards her, only displayed by the motorist when questioned about her immigration status.

  1. Typical ignorant joco born and raised resident . Will be so glad when they are all gone. This is the most racist and bigoted and ignorant place I have ever lived in my life.

      • No Jeff. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Go back to waving your losing flags though … you probably have both of them.

      • I have been here almost 45 years and so have been teaching kids and adults both about the real history that so many were not taught. I have successfully educated many local residents how racism and bigotry – even though that may have been how you were raised – and this you can’t change that part of your life – you can however change your viewpoints going forward. Education and knowledge has been the key to my success. I have helped countless people over the years. Some sadly outright refuse to change or even consider non white humans their equal no matter what I or others may do or say. When I first moved here it was mainly a black and white issue – now we have more immigrants and their children who were born here and are citizens. I need to expand my work and educate those people who have a problem with Hispanics, Asians, Indians, etc., it seems.
Life is about learning and growing – progression and learning to accept that change is going to happen and being mad at it won’t do anything but make you mad. So brushing up on my foreign languages so I and my team can continue to better joco. It’s been hard but to see the people who have truly changed is worth it.
No where did I say All were like this – only that I will be glad when “they all “( the bigots etc) are gone. But yes , the typical residents I have meet over the many many years I have lived here think that there is no such thing as white privelege (I am white and privilege does not mean wealth in this context) and so many don’t understand the history of our founders and how this country was structured. It takes time to break it all down so one understands that there are many forms of racism and bigotry – and it exists in all races as well. We work on that within the black community where skin tone is still a big issue. This goes way deeper and my fingers hurt from typing. Just remember the KKK is still here in joco – and that is a fact.
If you know better – then do better. Joco has a reputation for a reason and if you want others in this state to change their opinion – then work to change it.

    • Well apparently you need to go back wherever you were before landing in JOCO, we’re not all like that!!

    • If you don’t like it then leave. The racism is bad but if you think every joco born and raised person here is like that then maybe you should take a hike and get out yourself if you don’t like it so much. Thanos was right about people like you. Northerners like you make all these baseless accusations and assumptions when people like you are just as guilty if not more of the same race baiting bullsh*t.

    • Maybe you should leave if all you’re going to do is assume that every joco native is like that. Your invading our personal space and runing our native environment with all your stupid houses too.

    • Genuinely we’ll be just as glad to see you gone too, you have no brain power whatsoever if you think every Joco native is like this. Go back to California

      • -I am from the south – brain dead aren’t you..if you can’t understand that people who are not racist are not always from the west coast. Just my point – you can’t understand that not all southerners are not racist…

    • @Leighlah….why’d ya come here to joco then??? Sounds like it’s so horrible there’s no way you’d wanna stay here. Wait. Let me check something. Yep, the roads and highways are clear and open. Might be a mighty fine opportunity for you to high tail it somewhere else. Wouldn’t want you so miserable in OUR county. Don’t paint us all with a wide paintbrush. This is “where I come and where I’ll be when it’s said and done. I’m as proud as anyone cause this is where I come from”. Safe travels.

      • Education people on race relations. I am white and saw the issue fairly quickly. My fathers family has been in he area for hundred of years – just continuing what they started…

  2. I do not believe this story myself. If the woman was not legal what was the woman with the gun going to do? Makes no sense to me but on the other hand nothing surprises me anymore.

  3. Ignorance is moving to a place to live and wanting others who have been here their whole lives to leave. Go back to where ever it is you came from if you don’t like it.

  4. Interesting how so many make immediate judgements on what happened without any real knowledge. It reminds me of Duke Lacrosse when people rushed to judgement and destroyed an entire sports program, maligned a university and almost ruined the lives of innocent young men without any information. In fact, what information they did have was completely false and misleading. To the point that the DA lost his law license and the investigator milled himself over it.

  5. @leighlah you said you teach people about the history or whatever do you not know that at one point and time there was a sign coming into smithfield that said welcome to Klu klux Klan land? H*ll I’m only in my 30s and never knew that until I was probably in my late 20s not all of joco is racist. If you dont like it feel free to leave at any time I’m sure we wouldn’t notice your gone.

    • Yes I do know about the KKK sign. Disgusting. I learned about it on the early 1980s and I think it has been down for a few years by then. There is still many members of the KKK on joco and you meet them every day – they aren’t gone believe me. The racism is better against one minority but now it’s doubled on another. My neighbors and others in my town have “typical” Hispanic last names but the ones I know very well – they are all born here, registered to vote – republican btw – which is public record -but I know because we are friends. I am registered independent and not a yankee liberal since so many do not realize one can be non racist, not a democrat and still be from the south.
I have hope for the ones who are my grandkids ages as they seem to not care about race, sexual orientation, religious affiliation etc. I still encounter people my age and a bit younger (40-60)from here who are racist because that is how they were raised – and once we sit down and talk – I mean really talk about what it is they think about other races – and why they think that way – what forms their opinions – random things like that – then we have valid talking points. Am I always successful in having people realize that we are all humans, that we all ( well most of us)deep down want the same things for ourselves, loved ones and friends, that we have more in common (I am not talking about super rich people – just the average person) than differences – not always successful sadly but I do have a good success rate in getting people to at least re-evaluate what they grew up thinking. Many do change their way of thinking about other races – and that makes me happy. That is why I stay here. No one needs to live in a bubble where they only hear, learn or know one point of view, one way of life etc. There are billions of people in the world and there are different ways of life, careers, tastes, values, education and the list goes on and on. I hope we all strive to care about other humans regardless of skin color, and so many other factors. Be a good person and don’t pull a gun on someone because they look different than you. Is that too much to ask? I don’t think you disagree with me there…

My pet peeve is bigotry and ignorance and I have spent most of my life trying to teach people that hate is not the answer. There are plenty of reasons not to like a person – but race, who one loves, where one does or does not pray, etc., just don’t seem like valid reasons to me. I don’t like child molesters/abusers – that’s a valid reason in my opinion – no matter any other factor I stated above.

      • You make an assumption which is inherently racist. You state,” don’t pull a gun on someone who looks different than you”. I didn’t read in the story where it identifies the race, nationality or any other characteristics of the alleged perpetrator. Pot meet kettle.

  6. She is an immigrant, just like the jerk that pulled the gun. Unless you are Native American, everyone here is an immigrant. Some decency for other human beings goes a long way. I imagine the immigrant with the firearm was sitting in a nice cool air conditioned vehicle while the other one was standing in the miserable heat, doing a job no one else would want to do for miserable pay as well.

  7. Leighlah is Just weird.
    Screams Democrat.
Obviously no good at her job as one sided as she is.
    All about herself !
