A 27 year-old man is accused of forging checking belonging to his 90 year-old grandmother and cashing them at various locations.
The elderly victim, who lives in Garner, reported the incident to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on July 10th. Her grandson, Noah Ashley Ray of Davis Mill Road, Selma allegedly forged and cashed seven checks in Johnston County totaling $24,000.
Ray was arrested July 14th by Johnston County deputies and charged with 14 felony violations including seven counts of forgery and seven counts of uttering a forged endorsement.
The incident was also investigated by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office where the alleged thefts occurred. “We investigated the Wake County case but prosecution was declined by ADA Christy Joyce in Wake County and referred to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office,” according to WCSO Public Information Officer Eric Curry.
